1/2 cups warm water
1 tsp. sugar
2 Tbsp. yeast
1 1/2 cups warm water
4 Tbsp. olive oil
dash of salt
3 cups white flour
2 cups barley flour
Makes 2-3 medium-sized pizza crusts.
Dissolve yeast in 1/2 c. warm water with sugar and let bubble up.
Sift flours together, then add salt, 1 1/2 c. warm water, and olive oil to the flour mixture.
Add yeast mixture to wet flour mixture and knead until a nice soft dough forms.
If making scones, flour counter top, pull dough out to desired size scone, lay on floured counter top, cover with a dish towel and let sit for 5 minutes, then drop into hot grease and fry.
Serve scones hot with your favorite topping, syrup, or peanut butter and syrup, honey, any jams or jellies, powdered sugar, or sugar mixed with cinnamon.
Baker's Tips: This dough recipe is great for scones because it has little sugar in it and so is less prone to making your oil and scones turn dark.
